No. 31105 was the third of Network Rail’s Class 31s to return to traffic and the only former disc headcode-fitted locomotive in the fleet, although it could often be found partnered with Howard Johnston’s hired in Fragonset, later BR blue-liveried, ‘skinhead’ No. 31106 on test trains. The former D5523, new to Stratford in March 1959 and withdrawn from Bescot in May 1997, was selected in 2002 for rebirth in NR’s QADD pool along with No. 31107.

While the latter fell by the wayside, No. 31105 was released from Derby in yellow in August 2004, externally almost unchanged from its previous condition, even retaining the extra lamp iron on its plated nose doors. However, by the second half of 2005, Derby had taken the opportunity to remove the cab roof vent cover from the No.1 end cab roof to match the No.2 end that had been rebuilt in early 1984.

While in late 2007, the front ends were further modified with same LED tail lights and the washer jet modifications described above with No. 31285.All good things come to an end though and No. 31105 was withdrawn for the second time in February 2015, leaving just No. 31233 still active for NR.

Still in working order, it was occasionally used as a shunter at the RTC site before being sold into preservation at the Mangapps Railway in Essex in October 2018.

High Performance traction features;

  • High quality 5-pole motor with two large flywheels
  • Helical Gear box for maximum performance and slow speed running
  • Gearing arranged so locomotive can achieve a scale top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h)
  • Outer axles on bogies are driven (sprung dummy centre axle) and all wheel pickup

  • All models feature a fully working, scale speed roof fan, that will run on DC and DCC., On DCC control, the fan speed is fully programmed to simulate accurate motion

  • Directional lighting, DC and DCC
  • Lighting clusters with appropriate day and night-time settings
  • Switchable Red and white marker lights (red can be switched individual lights or both on)
  • Separately switched cab lighting and illuminated, driver’s desk with auto/off on movement

Top Class 31

This is yet another fantastic model from Accurascale. The attention to detail on the Class 31 is excellent and the it is finished beautifully. The locomotive runs very smoothly and the sound is very crisp and clear. The fan on the top of the locomotive changes speed dependent on engine RPM and really finishes the model off nicely. I continue to be impressed with the quality of the locomotives that Accurascale are creating.

Just keeps getting better!

When I got my Accurascale Class 31 in BR Blue I was extremely happy and impressed, so whilst looking forward to 31105 arriving I wasn't expecting the same WOW factor.

Well upon opening the box I was proven wrong and I did indeed get hit with a huge WOW. If anything even more so than before. Maybe it's the yellow livery but this loco just impresses in every way.

Another superb model from Accurascale, thank you.

A new excellent model of British Rail Class 31 in Network Rail Yellow excellent likeness to the BR Class 31, as a model very good likeness to the real locomotive, I bought the sound edition and am very pleased with my purchase at a fair price especially much better than other Model Makers never been disappointed with my many Accurascale Models

Accurascale NR Class 31105

This model is just superb! The running is smooth. The paint finish is first class. As an ex fitter of 31105, this represents its last overhaul! My example is Sound fitted and the running characteristics is like the real thing!

This is my second Class 31 from Accurascale. The first a BR blue but this one was to enhance my Network Rail fleet. I'm delighted with it just as the BR blue gang but now need some Accurascale Network Rail wagons to go with it. Looking forward to my 3 class 50's arriving.
