No. 31105 was the third of Network Rail’s Class 31s to return to traffic and the only former disc headcode-fitted locomotive in the fleet, although it could often be found partnered with Howard Johnston’s hired in Fragonset, later BR blue-liveried, ‘skinhead’ No. 31106 on test trains. The former D5523, new to Stratford in March 1959 and withdrawn from Bescot in May 1997, was selected in 2002 for rebirth in NR’s QADD pool along with No. 31107.

While the latter fell by the wayside, No. 31105 was released from Derby in yellow in August 2004, externally almost unchanged from its previous condition, even retaining the extra lamp iron on its plated nose doors. However, by the second half of 2005, Derby had taken the opportunity to remove the cab roof vent cover from the No.1 end cab roof to match the No.2 end that had been rebuilt in early 1984.

While in late 2007, the front ends were further modified with same LED tail lights and the washer jet modifications described above with No. 31285.All good things come to an end though and No. 31105 was withdrawn for the second time in February 2015, leaving just No. 31233 still active for NR.

Still in working order, it was occasionally used as a shunter at the RTC site before being sold into preservation at the Mangapps Railway in Essex in October 2018.

Great Class 31

My 1st Accurascale 31 and I'm really happy with it.
It looks great and runs just as good. I'm very tempted to purchase another while they have some in stock.

31 x 2

I now have two of these and even among the other Accurascale locomotives 3x Class 37, they are so smooth, so quiet and so very good to look at. Am very likely to buy another, others.

Network Rail 31105

There was something satisfying about Network Rail test trains when headed by a yellow locomotive in the noughties and tenies, and wasn't the class 31 eye catching. I am no class 31 expert and thus cannot comment on the accuracy of the model, I do listen to experts though and consensus is that the model largely justifies the prototype. As I said to Bachmann, who ever out of them or Accurascale...produces a yellow 31 first to market gets my order... so Accurascale got the order. Inclusion of a working fan at a cost effective price is to be commended.
Lack of 5 stars? The packaging is shockingly wasteful. As we are all lovers of public transport we have a moral duty to the planet. Excess packaging equals unnecessary carbon emission. Considering the same factory produces models in far more efficient packaging, without any damage occurring. Accurascale really do need to do better here.
Please note - I am being paid 100 points to write a review, this however is not affecting my opinion that Accurascale have by all intents and purposes produced a decent model in a striking colour.

Skinhead

I have a soft spot for anything to do with test trains, and my favourite body style on a 31 is a skinhead, so this model was a must for me. By far the most superior class 31 model out there with very crisp detail
