37420 The Scottish Hosteller Large Logo w/Highland 'stag'

Nr 37420 var den näst sista medlemmen av Inverness 'åtta', nr 37414-37421, oktetten av lokomotiv som tilldelats längst i norr för fungerande passagerar- och godståg till Aberdeen, Kyle of Lochalsh och Wick/Thurso, som bar det berömda märket Highland Rail 's. Konverterad till klass 37/4-konfiguration i december 1985 inkluderade den nya specifikationen olika kosmetiska uppgraderingar samt kapacitet för elektrisk tågvärme (ETH) klassad till 30, tillräckligt för att ge juice till sex eller sju tryckventiler Mk.2s, modifierade CP7 boggier regerade för en topphastighet på 80 mph och Brush BA1005A alternatorer för att ersätta den ursprungliga generatorn.Inverness-partiet försågs också med Radio Electronic Token Block (RETB)-utrustning strax efter "renovering" för att arbeta med Dingwall-Kyle-linjen och den nyligen idriftsatta sektionen till Wick och Thurso. Liksom alla 31 medlemmar i underklassen, släpptes den tidigare nr. 37297 (ursprungligen D6997), från Crewe Works i stor logotyp. Men i jämförelse med Eastfield- och Cardiff-tilldelningarna och de RETB-utrustade Class 37/0s som föregick dem, fick denna grupp inte universellt namn.Happily No. 37420 var en av de tre som gjorde det, och tillägnades The Scottish Hosteller den 28 juni 1986 vid Inverness Open Day. Efter fyra och ett halvt års arbete utanför Highlands huvudstad anslöt den sig till Thornaby FCTY Trainload-poolen i maj 1990 och behöll sin fulla skotska regalier, om än med en färgglad Kingfisher-logotyp på hytten, tills den blev den sista '37/4' som målades in i InterCity Mainline-schemat för allmänheten följande december. Sex år senare blev den också den sista typ 3 som bär Regional Railways-livry och den stängdes av i juli 2000. Den skars upp vid Hull's of Rotherham i februari 2008.
