The Class 31 is another excellent release from Accurascale and, unlike some of their smaller sound-fitted tank engines, this larger diesel really shows what they can achieve. The Network Rail yellow livery is beautifully applied, with crisp printing and plenty of finely applied detail throughout.
Running performance is superb. It is smooth, quiet and has excellent slow-speed control, while the pickups inspire confidence even over complex pointwork. The factory-fitted sound is also very good, producing a rich and powerful English Electric soundtrack with plenty of depth and realistic effects that suit the locomotive perfectly.
The level of detail is exceptional without compromising reliability, and the lighting functions add even more realism. This is a locomotive that looks every bit as good as it performs.
I now own over 55 Accurascale locomotives, and their larger diesel locomotives such as this Class 31 demonstrate just how good the company can be. The quality of assembly, running characteristics and sound are all in a different league compared with some of the sound-fitted tank engines in my collection.
Overall, this is an excellent model and one I would happily recommend to anyone modelling the modern railway scene.
