Revealed in February 1996 at an event at Toton TMD, 31407 was possibly the most surprising locomotive to be outshopped in the attractive aircraft blue house colours of Mainline Freight, one of the three shadow privatised freight operators spun off from the Trainload freight business in 1994. While the Class 31 fleet was in the process of being run down, this locomotive was selected because its electric train supply capability and vacuum braking made it the perfect partner for observation saloon DB999504. Despite this, it mostly saw employment on infrastructure duties, East Anglian passenger moves and railtours before being withdrawn in September 1998.

  • Extra cab front details for Network Rail locomotives
  • Fully sprung buffers, multiple pipework variations and screw couplings
  • Kinetic NEM coupler mounts at correct height with mini-tension-lock couplers

High Performance traction features;

  • High quality 5-pole motor with two large flywheels
  • Helical Gear box for maximum performance and slow speed running
  • Gearing arranged so locomotive can achieve a scale top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h)
  • Outer axles on bogies are driven (sprung dummy centre axle) and all wheel pickup

Deluxe Features

  • All models feature a fully working, scale speed roof fan, that will run on DC and DCC., On DCC control, the fan speed is fully programmed to simulate accurate motion
  • All models feature  PowerPack supercapacitor Stay-Alive system for uninterrupted power and flicker free lighting and uninterruptible sound (works on DCC)

  • DCC ready [21-Pin MTX Socket]
  • Factory-Installed DCC Sound available with ESU LokSound V5 fitted with large speaker and sugarcube style speaker, with large sound capsules for best possible sound (DCC Sound models only)
  • Wheel flange squeal sensor on DCC sound fitted locomotives for automatic flange squeal on sound programme

Fully detailed Lighting Pack features:

  • Directional lighting, DC and DCC
  • Lighting clusters with appropriate day and night-time settings
  • Switchable Red and white marker lights (red can be switched individual lights or both on)
  • Separately switched cab lighting and illuminated, driver’s desk with auto/off on movement

Not as good as the first purchase

This was the second 31 I purchased. The first was excellent . This model however had no cab or marker lights working on one end plus had one wiper missing one the right hand side both ends. After contacting accurascale (as helpful as a chocolate tea pot) I diagnosed and fixed the lighting fault myself. The wipers are a different matter. I would suggest if you buy a loco that you give it a thorough once over as in the first impression they appear great. Running qualities are first class. Perhaps I was just unlucky with purchase two

I amways liked the Mainline livery on the 31’s and the silver bank really set it off. Great paint job as always, looking forward to the ochre livery in the next batch

Another lovely model from Accurascale.
The detailing is first class, the performance is excellent and the sound is very very good.
All in all I am very pleased with this addition to my Class 31 fleet.

Great addition to my small layout runs very smoothly and is ideal for my branch line which has a fairly steep incline and can take a couple of carriages up there, I'm very pleased with it , no complaints.

31407 Superb Model

My second 31 with Sound. Once again brilliant model. Love the customised individual boxes, just gives that extra thought from a manufacturer. Runs smoothly. Just hope it last as long as some of my older Bachmann. But with the added lifetime guarantee that should go a long way if things do go wrong. So looking forward to adding a Class 50 and 60 to my collection.
