Repeinte dans le schéma de peinture gris général controversé en mai 1990, comme la majorité des locomotives pour obtenir cette livrée 37258 l'a rapidement échangée contre la variante "néerlandaise", étant dépassée avec la bande jaune du haut du corps en septembre 1991, recevant également un phare haute visibilité, doubles flèches moulées et plaques de dépôt du canton de Cardiff en même temps. Parmi les autres caractéristiques de repérage distinctives, citons les bogies en fonte et les fers à repasser de la région de l'Ouest et des lampes standard. Bien que portant les couleurs du département du génie civil, la locomotive a été régulièrement utilisée par le fret et a été suppléée aux services d'été Cardiff-Bristol Temple Meads-Weymouth et aux trains de voyageurs pour le festival de Glastonbury tout au long des années 1990. Il a perdu ses équipements moulés en 1997 et a été renuméroté 38384 l'année suivante après avoir été chaussé d'un ensemble de bogies CP7 réengagés. Il a finalement été stocké en 1999, toujours aux couleurs "néerlandaises".
