66779 “Evening Star”

It is the best model in my collection. 66779 looks spot on especially with an Accurascale crew pack fitted.

The last model purchased for me by my father before he passed away in March. He would be proud, it is stunning in every single aspect. I couldn’t be more pleased.

66 and Outta the Park

Yet another superb, highly detailed and heavily researched model by Accurascale.
Now that more, new proprietary providers are producing very high quality models, they need to ensure the model is the very best possible - dimensionally, livery, performance and that this performance is reliable.
All of these are superb. The model is actually a rework of the brilliant, but flawed Hattons original H4 66 model.
Changes - the axle boxes don't fall off - ever!
The pesky little steps on the original body are now chassis mounted, and don't fall off.
It's not perfect - nothing with this amount of detail can be, but it's obviously and practically better than it's original.
Performance? Nearly the same weight - 30g lighter at a still huge 710g.
Gearing remains the same, which is a little on the high side, but loaded means she can haul, hard and relatively fast, just like the real article.
Slow speed performance is par for the course nowadays, which means excellent.
One misgiving I have is the lighting on DC operation does not light up until about 40-45% power, long after the locomotive starts moving.
This is common to other 'new makes' as well, but not observed with Bachmann or Hornby, which light up at much lower power settings - something to review.

Very fine model !
Colours are spot on and very smooth running.
Even the rotating axle boxes have been made to work.
Highly recommended.
