This is another outstanding Class 66 from Accurascale. The DRS blue livery is beautifully reproduced with crisp printing, sharp logos and exceptionally fine detailing throughout. It is an impressive model straight out of the box and captures the look of the prototype perfectly.
The factory-fitted ESU LokSound decoder delivers a powerful and realistic sound project, with excellent bass response and plenty of volume. The motor control is equally impressive, allowing incredibly smooth slow-speed running and flawless performance over pointwork and complex track layouts. The stay-alive works exactly as it should, ensuring uninterrupted operation even over less-than-perfect track.
The lighting functions are another highlight, with realistic directional lighting and a comprehensive range of operating features that add to the overall realism. The level of detail is exceptional, yet none of it compromises the locomotive's running qualities.
Having built up a collection of over 55 Accurascale locomotives, I continue to believe their larger diesel locomotives are amongst the finest available in OO gauge. They consistently combine excellent detailing, reliable running and superb sound quality, and this DRS Class 66 is no exception.
It is difficult to fault this locomotive. If you are looking for a modern diesel with outstanding detail, excellent running characteristics and one of the best factory-fitted sound installations currently available, this model is easy to recommend.
