Former CIÉ 218 was the second choice to become NIR 105 after the original acquisition 224 was found to have bent frames. Because of this it was a late addition to the to the fleet eventually entering service in April 1991, having been one of the last three members of the class in service on Dublin suburban services. It was stopped several days after its official withdrawn in November 1986. The only example of the NIR MV or 104 Class to be all-over blue without a black roof, it was a regular performer on permanent way and weedkilling duties before it was stored after catching fire in November 1993. Despite this it was not officially withdrawn until August 1997 and it was cut up exactly two years later at Harland & Wolff, Belfast.
